I don’t see the tools in chat.
Switch the chat to Agent mode, then open the Tools button and make sure Will This Person Answer is selected.
MCP: Add Server isn’t there.
MCP servers in VS Code need GitHub Copilot. Your organization can also turn MCP off with a policy, so check with your admin.
The server won’t start or sign in.
Run MCP: List Servers, pick the server and choose Show Output to see the log, or Restart it.
Where does VS Code save the server?
In .vscode/mcp.json for this workspace, shared with your team, or in your user profile’s mcp.json for every workspace. VS Code uses the key servers, not mcpServers.
Does it sign in with OAuth?
Yes. VS Code opens your browser to sign in the first time it connects.
Can I reference the tool in my prompt?
